Maternity Advocacy
PBB Media founders Sally Cusack, Annalee Atia and Lara Martin have been involved in maternity advocacy for several years. This project is close to our hearts, hearing hundreds of stories from parents, care-takers, family members, healthcare providers, birth workers and other involved community members.
We have fantastic evidence-based policies at national and state levels of health for maternity care, yet implementation of these policies is incredibly slow. Without public pressure, health services are inclined to simply ignore policies, even if they are based on the latest evidence. This is where we can make the vital difference. Government must respond to their populace. When we all join forces and have our say, we can move mountains! Find out more here..

Matrescence Support
Matrescence is the little recognised phase of life when a woman becomes a mother. This period is the stage of becoming a mother and like adolescence the person undergoing it cannot go back to their former life. Also like adolescence, this period needs support, but as it lacks even a widely known name, few women get the support they need to take up the full opportunities this transition brings, as this can lead to what Dr Oscar Serrallach calls Postnatal Depletion. Find out more here.
Informed Consent and Decision Making in Maternity Care
This project is specifically designed to raise public awareness of human rights in childbirth, and where clinicians' responsibilities lie, especially when women request care that is different to what their carers are recommending. More information and links to resources can be found here.
Maternity Continuity of Care
“Skilled, knowledgeable and compassionate care for childbearing women, newborn infants and families across the continuum throughout pre-pregnancy, pregnancy, birth, postpartum and the early weeks of life. Core characteristics include optimising normal biological, psychological, social and cultural processes of reproduction and early life, timely prevention and management of complications, consultation with and referral to other services, respecting women’s individual circumstances and views, and working in partnership with women to strengthen women’s own capabilities to care for themselves and their families” - Midwifery as defined in the Lancet series on Midwifery.
PBB Media has been advocating for Continuity of Care and Carer and specifically midwifery continuity of carer, for many years. We believe that when families receive meaningful and appropriate support and care during what is one of the most monumental times in there life, the outcomes for all involved, and more importantly, the journey itself into parenthood and community life, is immeasurably improved. Throughout the website and indeed in much of our work you will find a focus on meaningful maternity care, with continuity at the centre of many discussions.

Collaborations
We believe in the power of community and building a network of support as they allow us to cross-pollinate our information across our different audiences. We have collaborated with a diverse range of organisations such as our weekly broadcasting host, 99.9 BayFM Byron Bay, our project administrative supporters Mullum SEED, Griffith University, Southern Cross University, Gold Coast University Hospital and the Northern NSW Local Health District and for many years with Australia's oldest maternity health consumer advocacy organisation, Maternity Choices Australia. If you would like to collaborate to breathe life into a project you're dreaming in, get in touch.
Other Projects - seeking business support
The following projects have been approved by our Management Team. Some of them have been the subject of grant submissions and seek business sponsorship in order to undertake or complete them. If your business would like to support any of these ventures, contact us at hello@pbbmedia.org for a project proposal.
