Back in 2010

An adventure begins...

We started out as a team of local parents and birth workers who had been involved in maternity advocacy in one way or another.  Some of us hosted pregnancy support group meetings, film screenings and other events (such as the Red Tent Festival), some of us attended births and supported new mothers, others were maternity services advocates with organisations such as Maternity Coalition Inc (now Maternity Choices Australia).  Through our work and personal experiences, we had all come to see the differences relationship-based care can bring families.

The need for information we identified
We also saw there was so much world-class evidence about how to make birth safer, so much useful information on making parenting more rewarding and so many inspiring stories from families changing their destinies that just weren't being heard in conventional media sources.   And while pockets of progress were happening in our local maternity service, there was lots to improve on, especially in other parts of the country.

Even the simple message that mothers and babies are more likely to survive the perinatal period when they receive continuity of midwifery-led care needed to be heard, but still most women do not understand this.  When we are informed, we can make our own best choices.

Together we hatched a dream to share all this information, the kind of information we wished we had known about when we first became mothers, information that we had seen other families use to change their lives.

This led our team to take the bold steps of creating a radio show "Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond" in September 2010, which continues to this day and includes weekly podcasts .  In 2016 with the momentum built by our diverse content we produced so consistently, our team saw the opportunity to expand our radio offerings into more media channels and live events to reach wider audiences.  With this step we became PBB Media.
