Find out what matters to Maternity Health Consumers when it comes to Maternity Care

Picture
Australian Maternity Healthcare is considered one of the best in the world when taking into account maternal mortality rates, yet what is clearly emerging through research, news and stories from communities across the country is that despite relatively low mortality rates for mothers and babies, we have very high rates of trauma and associated morbidity including avoidable stillbirth, affecting mothers and babies and consequently their family units and the wider community. At Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond, we believe that the early years, specifically the perinatal  period and in fact childbirth itself are pivotal in family and community overall wellbeing.
There are many areas in which maternity healthcare can be improved, fragmentation being one of these. One of the fundamental ways we can improve outcomes for all involved, including our healthcare force, is by providing quality continuity of care throughout the perinatal continuum.  At PBBM we work tirelessly to cross pollinate information between all the stakeholders in this area but most importantly, we speak daily to families about their lived experiences.

Collect Informed Consent for Clinicians

Collect a free podcast series - Informed Consent and Decision Making for Clinicians when you sign up to our Newsletter.

Pregnancy Birth and Beyond Media, Gold Coast Health and Griffith University invite you to a special live podcast recording - PBB Talks with Dr Bec Jenkinson, Informed Consent for Clinicians. Dr Jenkinson will be speaking to clinicians about Informed decision making, Rights and responsibilities of clinicians and women and How clinicians can provide care when women request different care to their recommendations. Bec Jenkinson completed a PhD in 2017, examining experiences of situations where pregnant women decline recommended care, and in particular processes that might enable respectful care. She is currently co-leading the development of a Queensland Health guideline for clinicians partnering with women who decline recommended maternity care.
We promise we won't bombard you - our newsletter is usually just a monthly affair :)
Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond Media, our development team and contributors pay our respects to indigenous elders past, present and emerging. The majority of our team reside on and work from the beautiful and profound land known as Cavanbah, the meeting place now also known as Byron Bay and surrounding hills, in Northern NSW, Australia.  We acknowledge the Traditional Owners of this land, the Arakwal people, the Minjungbal people and the Widjabul people of the Bundjalung Nation and the many other tribes that frequented this land.
As a team and organisation, we acknowledge the traditional custodians of this land and waters whose cultures and customs have nurtured and continue to nurture this land for over 22,000 years and upon which we now work and live. We acknowledge that sovereignty was never ceded and recognition of culture, connection to land and waters and sovereignty of all aboriginal/indigenous peoples across Australia is a matter of current and vital importance.  Find out more here.

PBB Media acknowledges the ULURU STATEMENT FROM THE HEART

The ULURU STATEMENT FROM THE HEART is addressed to the Australian people. It is a document that outlines the path forward for recognising Indigenous Australians in the Australian constitution. Over a six month period, a consultation process engaged more than 1200 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives in a dozen regional dialogues across the country culminating in a constitutional convention bringing together over 250 Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander leaders meeting in June 2017 at the foot of Uluru in Central Australia on the lands of the Aṉangu people.  The majority resolved, in the ‘Uluru Statement from the Heart’, to call for the establishment of a ‘First Nations Voice’ in the Australian Constitution and a ‘Makarrata Commission’ to supervise a process of ‘agreement-making’ and ‘truth-telling’ between governments and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.

PBB Media

a not-for-profit community journalism and media project dedicated to the cross-pollination and dissemination of non-sensationalist and useful information between all stakeholders involved in supporting families and communities to achieve a congruent journey of family life and better outcomes in healthcare.
