DEAR COMMUNITY
The Pregnancy, Birth & Beyond Outreach Hub supporting Flood-Affected Northern Rivers families was founded in the early days of March 2022 as a direct response to the Feb/March 2022 weather and flood catastrophe affecting thousands of people across Northern NSW. We eventually aim to support all families in need across the region, regardless of impact source.
The Hub is a collaboration between two local Not-for-profit organisations PBB Media Incorporated & The Returning Indigenous Corporation and along with the support of community members, organisations and businesses, fundraising campaigns and many volunteers we have come together to support flood-affected families in the early years of parenting in our Northern Rivers. In collaboration with The Returning, the hub programs and support will be reaching indigenous communities across the region.
ABOUT THE SERVICE IMMEDIATE AND LONG TERM SUPPLIES + SERVICES + SUPPORT
The Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond Outreach Hub service offers flood relief and support for Northern Rivers families with a child in the First 2000 days (pregnant or have a child in the first 5 years of life). The Hub is an inviting and caring space in Mullumbimby where families are welcome to visit, connect and receive community support. It is also a space for practitioners, community members, businesses and organisations to provide support and services for families.
We stock an Inventory of new or near new items of mother, baby, child and family supplies including nappies, baby, toddler and maternity clothing, formula, bottles, toiletries, bedding, baby carriers, toys and books, some larger items such as cots and bassinets and much more. We also offer some financial relief through food and petrol vouchers, access to grant funding for specific items we may not stock and for practitioner support.
All families on our list receive a weekly check-in text/call and the Hub also offers a unique 4-6 week Peer Continuity Support Program to flood-impacted families with a dedicated peer volunteer based on eligibility and availability. We offer and connect families with parent support programs including weekly Pregnancy and Postpartum parent support groups, programs for men and dads, kids play sessions. Parents can also access our extensive list of professional services network, many of whom offer discounted services to flood impacted families.
Monthly community wellbeing days are offered at the Hub and the Hub Outreach program ‘comes to you’ - Hub representatives in community and outreach days in various locations across the region.
All the above support and more is offered free of charge or subsidised with minimal red tape for flood-affected families in the Northern Rivers. Please note that unfortunately we are unable to offer support at this stage to families who are not flood affected or who live outside the region. We are working on funding to expand the Hub support to all in need.

BACKGROUND
Late in February and through to early March, our beloved region, the Northern Rivers of NSW on Budjalung Country and surrounding country along with the many communities living in the area have taken a huge hit. Unprecedented flooding, rain and winds have caused immense damage to landscape, homes, transportation means, local supplies and supply routes. As of March 2nd, assessment and recovery efforts are underway for the whole region. Local nonprofit organisations PBB Media Incorporated and The Returning Indigenous Corporation have started to receive requests for support from local birthing families and immediately recognised the ongoing nature of recovery following such a wide-spread and deeply impactful disaster.

HOW TO SUPPORT NORTHERN RIVERS FLOOD AFFECTED BIRTHING FAMILIES
PBB Media and The Returning are raising funds to support Northern Rivers pregnant, birthing, postnatal and early years parenting families affected by the recent flood disaster for both immediate and ongoing needs. Located in Mullumbimby and servicing flood-affected families across the Northern Rivers region, the newly formed Pregnancy, Birth and Beyond Hub will offer support and relief to pregnant, birthing + postpartum families. In partnership with The Returning, the hub will be reaching indigenous communities across the region.
Services and supplies through the hub will be allocated on a needs basis (but not necessarily means tested) and assessed by our organisations experienced teams, as requests come through with minimal processing time/red tape. We have been volunteering for over a decade in the local community and intimately understand community needs in the region. Specifically, The Returning Indigenous Corporation will be directly working with Indigenous communities around the Northern Rivers to ensure funds reach Indigenous mothers and families in need. |
